Awards: State of Iowa Main Street Awards, 1995 Forty-two historic 19th and early 20th century buildings were damaged by summer 1993 flood waters. Because of federal funding requirements, Prairie Architects was required to prepare construction documents for 42 buildings in just two months. Creating a highly organized system based on state-of-the-art computer technology allowed us to meet this seemingly impossible goal in an economical fashion. The work was completed in three phases: 1). assessment of damages, recommendations for extend an sequencing of repairs, and a Statement of Probable Cost; 2). detailed assessment of existing conditions and the preparation of construction documentation suitable for use by contractors; and 3). bidding, negotiation and construction phase services funded by federal and state agencies. All work was performed in close coordination with the National Trust for Historic Preservation Flood Response Program and the State Historic Society of Iowa (1994-1995). Three of the properties received state-wide State of Iowa Main Street Awards for work performed on them. |
